Monica + Ryan + gin = marketing opportunity

Timing is everything. Well thought out plans are important but sometimes you need to act quickly to take advantage of a window of opportunity that may only be open for a moment. Your ability to see an opportunity and execute on it can give your business a bump when you least expect it.

Being an entrepreneur means being able to take an idea along with some people and some resources and capitalize on an opportunity. Sometimes that opportunity is to solve a problem in the market while other times that opportunity can be to leverage an event to get exposure for your business. Being an entrepreneur also means that most times you will have your head down focused on the tasks at hand while the rest of the world spins around you. If you can develop a habit of looking around you might find timely opportunities that if managed quickly can give your business a shot in the arm.

Peloton ran a commercial recently that received a lot of social media attention and was (arguably) not well received. The actress featured in the commercial, Monica Ruiz, received a lot of criticism and negative feedback however Ryan Reynolds saw an opportunity to capitalize on all of the attention she was receiving by inviting her to appear in an ad for his gin company, Aviation Gin. The timing could not have been more perfect as the ad for Aviation Gin played into the social media narrative surrounding Monica. By acting quickly, Aviation Gin received some great social media leverage while Monica was given another opportunity to redeem herself. A win-win.

What trends are you noticing in the market now that your business could benefit from or take advantage of? What narrative is being told to your customers in the marketplace and how can your business benefit or leverage that narrative?
