Not every day is awesome. Depending on where you are in your journey as an entrepreneur you might find that most days are tougher than others. Cash flow concerns. Challenges with people on your team. Market problems that you didn’t anticipate would impact your business. The list is endless. There are days when it can be very overwhelming to be an entrepreneur and it can feel like everything is coming undone. In moments like these, perspective helps.
The end is not the goal. The goal is to do the work required and in doing so, become better entrepreneurs.
Dylan Gallagher
We didn’t start our businesses to have bad days or to spend our days fighting to gain ground. Many of us started our businesses to take advantage of an opportunity in the market that we felt we could solve. Along the way we hope to be profitable and when it has all been said and done, our hope is that the end justifies the means. And this is where entrepreneurs can get stuck. The end is not the goal. The goal is to do the work required and in doing so, become better entrepreneurs.
What does it mean to become a better entrepreneur? It means understanding what you need to do differently today to get a better result than you did yesterday. It means knowing that your financial statements are a feedback loop for how well you are leading your team to whatever destination you have marked out. It means making changes and decisions that move your business forward. There is value in looking down the road to know where you are going, but each day your job is to do the best you can with what you have. This means taking actions that move you forward even if they are not ideal or comfortable. When it seems impossible, focus on the next action you can take to better your situation.
