Talents or talents

How do we know that we have been done all that we can with what God has given us?  I have been reflecting on Matthew 25:14 - the parable of the man who gave talents to his slaves according to their skill.  The one with 5 was able to get the money to work and earned 5 more.  The slave given 2 talents was able to grow it and make 2 more.  The slave given a single talent dug a hole as he was afraid and scared.  Which slave am I?  When working on my own efforts in my mind I believe I am the first slave.  Recently I have felt like maybe I am the last slave who buried his talent.  I find it interesting that the term talent is used.  Talent is a unit of currency - something like 3,000 shekels.  However in modern day the term talent means natural ability or aptitude.  If I am to be the first servant who was given 5 talents and turned them into an additional 5 how do I do that in my own life?  My perspective is that God has given me talents and expects me to use them to further His Kingdom.  We know that the commandments Jesus left with us was to love the Lord and to love others.  If he has given me talents to do this - am I using them to do this?  If I pursue Him daily and worship him in my work (using my talents) then I can take comfort in knowing that I am doing all I can with what He has given me.
