Be careful about what you ask for

This morning I was reading the Word and came across James 4:3 - "When you ask you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures" (NIV). This verse jumped out at me today as I have been asking God why He seems to be quiet in answering my prayers regarding the debts that our company is in the process of repaying. In reading this verse I think that I am guilty of not being totally honest with God. If He were to pay off our debts what would that result produce in me and our company? While I may not have a specific selfish desire that I would pursue if our debts were repaid God knows my heart and if I have not specifically set my heart on worshipping Him when the debts are repaid then maybe that is what He is waiting for - me. I need to spend some time with God understanding what His will for our business is once we have moved from surviving to thriving. Just because I don't knowingly have selfish desires today doesn't mean that they are not there - God knows my heart and my mind.
