I woke up this morning and all of the dots seemed to be connecting on an idea that has not crossed my mind before. It started last week when my wife and I got back to studying one Psalm a day and we read some commentary on how David lived his life. As far as he was concerned - God was directing every moment of his life and lived accordingly. It wasn't that he didn't sin or that he was righteous every moment of every day but he did have a heart that longed to please God every moment of every day. In thinking about this I was forced to reflect back on my life and how I consider God on a moment by moment basis.
I believe God created the entire universe and that he is everywhere all the time. From the air I breath the the emotions I feel based on what thoughts are crossing my mind - God is here in every moment of every day. I have tended to compartmentalize God - for example, He is with me when I am at church on Sunday listening to a message. He is with me in the morning when my wife and I are reviewing His word together. But when I am working, or having conversations with business colleagues I don't tend to think of Him being there. But that is crazy. He is in every moment every day and the fact that I don't acknowledge or recognize Him doesn't change that He is still there.
I have arrived at three (3) thoughts: 1) His Spirit prompts me to actions (i.e. turning off my Blackberry on Sunday to not be distracted on the sabbath); 2) every moment of every day God is speaking to me (whether it is a conversation that I am having with someone that He is using to tell me something or whether I am watching my children as they play so he can show me how to have no regard for problems or stress) and 3) that I am tested daily as He wants me to be refined. When I sin or am unrighteous it God testing me and allowing the sin to build my faith and confidence in Him. In realizing these things it becomes impossible to argue that God is present in my life at certain points and then He is absent in others. If God could create all of the things in my life (tangible and intangible) it doesn't make any sense that he would make arbitrary decisions about when to be available. He can't not be in my life - He is my life! He is in everything in my life.
God thank you for revealing yourself to me in this way. May I learn to seek you in everything that I do so that you will would be revealed.
