Forget all that you know

Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (ESV)". These are loaded words for me today. I continue to rely on my own points of reference and knowledge to solve my difficulties while intellectually believing Proverbs 3:5. So how do I put into practise this passage? The word "trust" could be explained as "reliance on the strength / ability of a person or thing" - God is in my corner and I need to rely on His strength and ability not mine. A definition of the word "all" means exclusively. This is where I get caught - I don't believe exclusively in God as I try to mix in my own thoughts and actions ahead of God. The very next word that shows my inability to practise this scripture is "lean" - "to rest against or on something for support". I need to refer to God's Word much more to seek direction. He is the rock upon which I stand and I should be confident that it is sufficient. Ultimately I fail to practise this verse as a result of "understanding" - "knowledge of or familiarity with a particular thing". How many times do I say to God "I trust you" but then take actions without necessarily feeling the Spirit or His peace. I use my own experiences to move ahead of God and this passage reminds me that trusting in God means exclusively relying on not only his strength and ability but also on His knowledge and not mine.
